How do I continue/learn the training y'all started?

When you choose to adopt a dog from us, you're not just giving a home to a shelter dog -- you're eliminating the guesswork. We offer a comprehensive support network and educational resources to guarantee the success of both you and your new companion. When you adopt a furry bestie through us, you aren't just rescuing the animal -- you're allowing us to give you the relief of not going through this new experience alone. We pride ourselves in keeping in contact with our adopters and clients to ensure they continue receiving all the support they require. 

What vet services are completed while dogs are under y'all's care?

We ensure every dog that finds themselves within our care receives any and all vaccines they require to be "up to date" (Rabies and Distemper/Parvo), spay or neuter surgery, heartworm testing, Simparica Trio monthly medicine, and microchip implantation/registration.

What is your training philosophy?

We believe in balanced training. Consequences, both negative and positive, are required for a calm and balanced dog. We do use tools, equipment, treats, and physical rewards to encourage proper behaviors.

What tools do you use?

• Herm Sprenger prong collars. while many people dislike the appearance of the collars, they are the most efficient and safest tools that all dogs respect. they are able to grab the dog's attention without causing any physical damage to the dog or their trachea. 

• E-collars by E-collar Technologies. Though there is some controversy over the use of this equipment, they are the most humane and effective training tools. While the equipment and company are great, with the stimulation levels ranging from 0-100, these collars allow the stimulation levels to not only be strong enough, but also sensitive enough for any kind of dog. I encourage everyone to see e-collars as a form of communication rather than just correction. 

Where do the dogs stay when they are under Family K9 Services' care?

Dogs will be in individual kennels when unsupervised. When trainer supervision is available, they will have access to the dog run or the property, depending on their responsibility and attitude.

What food do the dogs eat while under Family K9 Services' care?

After thorough research and studying, we have found the best results in attitude and physical health come from Victor Nutra Pro.

I see a dog I like, how do I stake a claim on the dog?

Although this is a "first come, first serve" process, you are able to have an advantage if you are quite keen on a certain dog. Start by filling out the Adoption Application and answer in section five, Adopting, the question that asks whether there is a particular dog you are interested in. So far as you are dedicated, and have shown that you would be a good match for the dog, you will continue through our process without hinderance or competition.

I don't see a dog I'm particularly drawn to, but still want to work with Family K9 Services. What are my options?

Although our space is limited in how many rescue dogs we can handle at one time to provide a variety of options, we are more than happy to work with you. Start by filling out the Adoption Application and specify in section five that you are interested in us helping you pick out a dog at a shelter. We will then contact you within 1-2 business days to discuss your application and the game plan in moving forward in finding you your dog. We will schedule a time to visit a nearby animal shelter with you to look at dogs and help you get to know what you are looking for in a dog. 

What does the adoption process look like?

Adoption through Family K9 Services is a "first come, first serve" basis, and we ask that if you see a dog in our care that you like, you contact us and send an Adoption Application in ASAP. We will contact you within 1-2 business days and review your application with you and confirm details. We like to get to know our adopters and how we can best serve them through our services, support system, and dog(s) we offer. A meeting, for both us and the dog(s) in question, will be scheduled. If all goes well and you still desire to move forward with adopting, we will set up 2-3 additional meetings/training lessons to help the transition and adoption process. Our mission is to work ourselves out of a job by ensuring no dog will be returned to us or any shelter due to the support and training we offer our adopting families. We want you to succeed and will do everything we can to prepare you. When each party is ready for the 'big day', the adoption will be scheduled and after signing an adoption contract and submitting the final payment, you get to go home with your new best friend!

If I donate towards the organization or a specific dog, will I get a tax write-off?

They are entirely funded by voluntary contributions and an amount will be suggested to you before you complete your payment. You can always change the amount to one of your choice by  selecting "Other" in the dropdown menu.
